"The exercising of weapons putteth away aches, griefs, and diseases, it increaseth strength and sharpeneth the wits, it giveth a perfect judgment, it expelleth melancholy, choleric, and evil conceits, it keepeth a man in breath, in perfect healthe, and long life." – George Silver (1599)

I’ve been reading Lives of Master Swordsmen by Makoto Sugawara, edited by Burritt Sabin.
It is a great book on a number of the great Japanese swordsmen, with great information and is very well written. I’ll be putting up some choice bits.

This is a great picture showing some pre-duel symbology.
However, that’s just half of the Harlequin sword story.

The Traveler series of novels by John Twelve Hawks is an illuminating and entertaining tale of how the NWO using data-surveillance-matrixes and violence, wealth & manipulation can control this world and eliminate their arch-rival illuminators, these individual prophet/saint/magickians that can travel to other “realms” (a.k.a. really solid astral projection).
These “Travelers” are protected by “Harlequins” – their warrior-protectors whose modern arnesal finds its center in their swords, which they love like samurai.

These look awesome. They are a bit spendy compared to shinai. I wonder how they feel and how long they last.
Their full armory is amazing. Check it.

This looks fun, even if the mechanism is probably a bit paper-rock-scissors. I don’t think a videogame in any near future will be able to capture the realistic dynamics of a sword fight, although Soul Caliber is a pretty awesome game.

These people have this whole sword armor suit. I like the concept, but the price seems a bit high at $220, and i don’t see why they even really need armor since they are fighting with foam swords.

I think this is an interesting product, used to modify katana-modeled shinai into something more like a longsword.
They are made by Ardenwood Forge.

That being said, at Mu Ryu, we’ve made basket hilts for shinai out of the hard plastic used for “pickle barrels”. The barrels are cut with a dremel tool or shears. They offer excellent hand protection, with low weight, while the plastic can be trimmed to adjust balance. And they costs virtually nothing to make.
