I'm betting that its "no-sparring" policy was complemented by its "just fight for real" policy, and its "kill lots of dudes on the battlefield" policy. The dilemma of the modern martial artist is that if you want to stay out of jail you can't really test your art. That's probably a major point in favor of 52 Blocks. Katori Shinto Ryu is pretty old. I’m betting that its “no-sparring” policy was complemented by its “just fight for real” policy, and its “kill lots of dudes on the battlefield” policy.
